We encourage our residents to play motion-controlled video games. First all, they are fun. And we want to add fun to their days. The games also have strategic purposes, as well. They allow those of various ages and levels of physical mobility to play sports and engage in friendly competition. This creates social engagement and movement. (For those who have balance issues, they can play while seated.) Often, hand-eye coordination is needed and improved.
At the same time, players have to think, strategize and problem solve. Their minds are active and focused on a challenge. Whether residents play with a group or alone, they can set goals and chart their improvement.
One more thing. In these days of Covid-19, it is a plus that the playing of video games allow for social distancing.
