Pets Have Healthy Effects

One of our residents is really enjoying the new love of her life, the puppy, Bella. She is certainly cute. But her value goes beyond that. The companionship of an animal can affect us on four primary levels - physical, social, emotional and cognitive - leading to a number of health and life benefits. A pet can fulfill the need to care for others, create a sense of purpose and offer a relationship based on unconditional love. They can help their owners feel more valued. The relationship has been found to lower blood pressure and reduce stress. And it can provide an outward focus and decrease the emphasis on personal problems.
