We encourage our residents to take a daily walk. This form of physical, inexpensive exercise is something just about everyone can do at a pace that is beneficial for themselves. And it is often easier for participants to stick with, a key to a successful exercise program. We start slow and encourage everyone to go at their own pace. When we put our good walking shoes to use, we burn calories. At the same time, this doable exercise lower risks of high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, stroke, heart disease and cardiac arrest. For those dealing with arthritis, studies have found that walking lubricates the knee and hip joints while strengthening surrounding muscles, reducing the pain. The workout can be a stress reducer and a mood changer. It can be social or reflective. And with the perfect weather we had on this day, another chance to appreciate the beautiful area we live in.
